Understanding Golden Slipper Fields
The Golden Slipper is the second highest prize money race of the Autumn carnival and therefore one of the races you should be targeting. The Slipper field is made up of 16 runners and 4 emergencies.
The final field is determined by prizemoney although there are seven lead-up races where the winners are exempt from the ballot. It is these lead-up ballot exempt races that allow us to be able to target this race with some certainty.
The lead-up races are
Group II Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) – Rosehill 20th Feb
Group III Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) – Randwick 27th Feb
Group III Skyline Stakes (1200m) – Randwick 27th Feb
Group II Reisling Stakes (1200m) – Randwick 5th Mar
Group II Todman Stakes (1200m) – Randwick 5th Mar
Group II Magic Night Stakes (1200m) – Rosehill 12th Mar
Group II Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) – Rosehill 12th Mar
So before the first lockout we already know three runners that are guaranteed a start in the Golden Slipper and we also have the chance to target the other balloted races early in the competition to build our star stable.
